The Innovation

Our buttons are made out of Corozo nuts instead of plastic. And, don’t worry – seeds that are picked before they fall aren’t ripe enough for button production, so there’s no deforestation business around here.

Our jacket liner is made from wood. Wait, wood? That’s right, or to be more specific, Tencel which is sustainably harvested from managed forests in Europe. And of course because it’s made from wood, it is biodegradable.

Every bit of this jacket, from fabric, buttons, labels, and sewing thread is made from plants and will decompose naturally at the end of its useful life.
Our collab graphics are printed with a waste reducing direct-to-garment method using plastisol-free water-born inks.

Diane Lam

Raised in Southern California on her grandmother’s Cambodian cooking, Diane has built her life around food. After working in top-tier Michelin star restaurants, her new restaurant, Sunshine Noodles opens in Portland this fall. She continues to root her projects in a sense of community and constant adaptation to it.

Often called the jazz chef, she pulls inspiration from Rose City itself - the colors and the mood help her decide what dishes to make and which emotions to emphasize. A daily enjoyer of soup, Diane wanted to work with UNLESS to create her Soup Weather Tee and be part of other communities who are committed to uplifting the area.

Portland Story

Inspired by our hometown and its people, this collection harnesses the self-expression, inclusivity and creativity of Portland. Curated by Franke Cooke, each collaborator designed a limited edition UNLESS product representing parts of themselves and how they’re influenced by the city they live in.
